Correlation of Different MRI Scoring Systems with Long-Term Cognitive Outcome in Cooled Asphyxiated Newborns

چکیده
(1) Background: Cerebral MRI plays a significant role in assessing the extent of brain injury neonates with neonatal encephalopathy after perinatal asphyxia. Over last decades, several scoring systems were developed to enhance predictive accuracy MRI. The aim this study was validate correlation four established cognitive long-term outcomes cooled asphyxiated newborns. (2) Methods: Forty treated therapeutic hypothermia included retrospective study. scans from second week life scored using existing (Barkovich, NICHD, Rutherford, and Weeke). patients’ outcome assessed Bayley Scales Infant Development (BSID-III) at age 2 years. To evaluate between system scores BSID-III, coefficient calculated for each system. (3) Results: All showed BSID-III. strongest found Weeke Score (r2 = 0.43), followed by Rutherford score 0.39), NICHD 0.22), Barkovich 0.17). (4) Conclusion: Our confirms previously published results an independent cohort indicates that have BSID-III

Angiogenesis Dysregulation in Term Asphyxiated Newborns Treated with Hypothermia
BACKGROUND Neonatal encephalopathy following birth asphyxia is a major predictor of long-term neurological impairment. Therapeutic hypothermia is currently the standard of care to prevent brain injury in asphyxiated newborns but is not protective in all cases. More robust and versatile treatment options are needed. Angiogenesis is a demonstrated therapeutic target in adult stroke. However, no s...
متن کاملLong -Term Outcome Therapy of Toxic Diffuse Goiter in Tehran
SUMMARY In order to evaluate the long-ter m effects of antithyroids and ahlative therapy on patients with toxic diffuse goiter (TDG) in an iodine deficient region, 206 patients were studied in Tehran. Hyperthyroidism recurred in 50%, of 80 patients treated with Methimazole (MMI), from one week to 48 months after cessation of therapy. Another 40 patients remained in remission. Of 102 patients t...
متن کاملAutomated electroencephalographic discontinuity in cooled newborns predicts cerebral MRI and neurodevelopmental outcome.
BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS Prolonged electroencephalographic (EEG) discontinuity has been associated with poor neurodevelopmental outcomes after perinatal asphyxia but its predictive value in the era of therapeutic hypothermia (TH) is unknown. In infants undergoing TH for hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) prolonged EEG discontinuity is associated with cerebral tissue injury on MRI and adver...
متن کاملLong-term outcome of transfemoral thrombectomy in patients with acute iliofemoral vein thrombosis
Abstract Background: The optimal therapy of acute iliofemoral venous thrombosis is still a matter of debate. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the late results of iliofemoral thrombectomy with regard to the prevention of the development of a Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS). Methods: During 2000-2003, 18 patients underwent transfemoral venous thrombectomy for acute iliofemoral venous thro...
